Resort Experience:
Check in/Check out: The Sandals lounge wait at the airport was nice and cozy and we were assisted with our luggage right away. The bus transport was rough, which I know is out of anyone’s control (the driver was so nice and we enjoyed his introductions to the land on the way to the resort). We regret not booking a private car on the way there when we made it to Jamaica (due to my severe motion sickness). We were able to get a private car back to the airport at the end of our trip when requested. The check-in and wait once we got into the front lobby (~6pm) was long however. I checked into Sandals on my phone very early that day so to arrive to a long wait inside the lobby was rough on us since we were exhausted from 12+hour travel. We were more frustrated when it took longer to get our room. The staff walked us including multiple other guests as a group to each of our rooms (this was extremely exhausting since we had to stand and wait for each couple to get to their rooms). I think we would’ve been fine walking to our rooms alone. Checkout was easy and we had information on when to meet at the front for our private car transport. We spoke with our driver all the way from the resort to the airport and were happy to have had Kimani as our driver (also provided beverage/snacks on the way).
Room/Staff: We wish we upgraded our room, but the one we had was adequate since we had planned on being outside of the room majority of the time. We just didn’t like the old feel to the room and the bathroom facilities were a tight squeeze for us. The only minor issue regarding our room is that we had a puddle/leak on the floor on out first night of arriving to the room. But the front desk was able to send someone to our room right away that night to check it out. We loved that everyone smiled and greeted each time we walked to/from the room. We also felt very safe seeing security staff out in various sections of the resort especially at night.
The pool/beach/pool bar was super convenient and right out in front of our room/quarters. The only thing I wish we knew was when the DJs were going to come out to the pool/pool bar by our room quarters (we weren’t sure when and wish we inquired about this schedule, but we continued to find alternative activities/explore the resort anyways so it wasn’t a pressing thing to know). I didn’t know where to access the newsletter that you mentioned. The only time I saw activity schedules was when we walked up to the front lobby or to the night lounge (I forgot the name of it) where they had schedules posted up on their tv screens.
In relation to the pool, we noticed that the staff stocked the towels at the beach/pool the same time the first few days then on other days, they were not stocked and still empty. On one of those days (late afternoon), we called the front desk to drop off some towels at our room since we didn’t have fresh towels in the room. Unfortunately, we didn’t end up getting our towels, but we remembered about the island time you informed us about. Next day, we did receive a visit, but noticed that our trash and old towels were taken away, but we did not get new towels (this was unusual), but did not sweat it too much.
The housekeeping staff was wonderful. The only confusion we had was not knowing when they were coming and noticed they showed up at different times to the room daily (although we acknowledge that they may have various rotating schedules) – we just didn’t know when we were supposed to leave/when we should be in the room. The concierge visits to the room were very accommodating as well and they were able to stock our fridge with our preferred beverages – they were wonderful and so friendly. Even hours before we had to check out of the room, they kept offering us a bottle of champagne at our door.
Food/Drink: The serve staff were very nice as well when we tried each restaurant (except the cafe sadly). Our favorites were Schooner’s breakfast, which was right out in front of our room/room quarters, Eleanor’s dinner (we loved every dish!), Giuseppe’s dinner, and the Jerk Shack (highly enjoyed – the chef even custom made us his spiciest sauce while we were there). We enjoyed the food at all the other restaurants. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy Sushi on the Sand and Jasmine’s. The sushi did not taste fresh at Sushi on the Sand and we had trouble receiving some of the plates we requested for order (this was our first night at Sandals). Unfortunately, Jasmine’s was our least favorite – We ordered multiple dishes, however, each dish was very bland, did not seem to represent the various Asian cultures on the menu, and some of the ingredients within the dishes did not seem like the proper ingredients to use for the various dishes we ordered. Our favorite bar was Latitudes/the over water bar due to the music, views, and the bar staff were always lively, although, we very much enjoyed all other bars and the bar staff. The bar staff at Latitudes was fun during the day and at night (they did such a good job serving and coming up with surprise concoctions for us when we didn’t know what to order). We really enjoyed the fact that every bar/bartender/restaurant had their own signature drink. This allowed us to try different concoctions and enjoy more rum on the island/resort.
Beach/Spa/Excursions/Additions: We enjoyed the beach, the cool sand and warm waters. We didn’t have any issues with the beach and was able to find chairs (it only became a challenge on our last day/morning of the trip). We wish we were provided with an itinerary of excursions (the only info I had personally was the purchase confirmation of excursions on my phone email inbox that I used as a schedule). We didn’t know how to obtain additional information or where to go unless we asked the front desk, who directed us to the island tours desk. Once we knew about this desk, we regularly called their desk or went there to obtain information. The staff at the island tours desk were extremely helpful and patient with us even when we had so many questions to ask. Aside from the long transport to the various excursions, we loved every little excursion we scheduled: YS Falls/Appleton Rum Tour, Sunset Catamaran Cruise, ATV riding. At the resort, we had two Red Lane Spa appointments, candlelight dinner, and brief photo session. The Scents of Love massage and my individual tropical body wrap session (I forgot what it was called) were beyond amazing. The staff at the spa made sure to provide a calm, zen, and enjoyable experience. The only thing I wish that they did on the Sandals website was provide us more description on each service offered since there were multiple massage types and we didn’t know how to differentiate between them all. The brief photoshoot was amazing and we got a beautiful array of photos that we purchased. The candlelight dinner was almost my favorite addition we scheduled out of all – The service was excellent and we got to eat out on the beach. I truly enjoyed every dish and every bite on the menu. The only confusion was that we didn’t know we were supposed to select our menus ahead of time. We didn’t find out until we accidentally came across the offices near the shops and we saw an example menu on display in the window (I wish someone had contacted us ahead of time or wish there were instructions provided to us when we had scheduled this dinner online).
OVERALL review: We are certainly still daydreaming about our trip in Jamaica/Sandals South Coast. We thought about rebooking, but chose not to rebook right away since we wanted to return home to do research on the other Sandals resorts including the other locations in Jamaica. We definitely want to go back! Overall, we truly enjoyed the trip. The people of Jamaica on and off the resort were extremely friendly with us.

Erin Meyer did an amazing job guiding us when scheduling this trip! We’ve been in contact with her since Fall 2019. Her communication / responsiveness via email and text was always so helpful receiving regular reminders (ie, receiving her introductory email as soon as we landed in Jamaica and arrived to the Sandals lounge) and informational emails to help us better prepare for the trip. She was very patient with us whenever I had questions / when we had to reschedule our 2020 trip due to COVID since we’ve rescheduled our wedding several times. We are now so happy that we got to finally go on our delayed honeymoon trip in December 2021. Erin’s assistance made a very HUGE difference in the planning process from beginning to end especially related to any to-dos (ie, getting travel documentation submitted on time, etc.) that needed to be done in relation to COVID/health/security/customs. We very much appreciated her guidance throughout this trip and hope other couples take advantage of the Wedding Vibe guidance that she gave us. Please reward Erin at WeddingVibe. Thank you.
